i dont hate you i just dont agree
other than a general opinion, i dont think i really care about politics. too many variables, boring, & doesnt effect my life for the most part.
im more just concerned with helping people i care about avoid suffering whenever possible. anything beyond that is a distraction
if someone disagrees with me on something, politically or ideologically etc and is so passionate about it that it causes conflict, i try to simply listen to the other person so they feel heard.
the problem arises when not only does that person need to be heard, they need to be understood as well. they show their need by their reaction to your opinion on the matter. it can be such a touchy subject even an honest question can feel like an attack.
i know bc ive been there and feel sorry for people who are going through that. i understand the need for validation but that is still earned. you are not entitled to someone understanding you. It hurts, but you can’t put that expectation on people or they will all let you down.
the best you can do is speak the truth as you see it regardless of whether it upsets the other person. its not the easy way but i cannot live with myself if i dont. for whatever reason i cannot stand being disingenuous. even if it costs me friendships or relationships.
Of course there is nuance you have to say it in a way that is not gonna put that person on the defensive if possible. its a challenge and sometimes its better to just not say anything if you can. sometimes people just arent ready. its hard to find the right balance of keeping your boundaries while also still putting yourself in the other person’s shoes.
I just feel like I’m constantly putting myself in other people’s shoes and being as respectful as I possibly can, and they are not expecting that courtesy to me. When I say something they think is a certain reactant kind, but if I do that, they get triggered and upset. Of course, every situation is different.
The summit all up I think that some people have rather high expectations on people understanding the anthem them, but they don’t put in the effort to explain themselves well and end up representing people because of it.
